Boticas has always been an open-door for motor racing.
It has been some decades now that in the Boticas area are organized Motor Racing events, such as the Rallye Alto Tâmega (Region nomination) counting for the, then, Portugal Rally Championship, the Rallye das Barragens, the Rallye Terras do Norte (Historical Regularity Rally), among others.
Boticas has also served as stage for several motorcycle events such as PORTUGAL Lés a Lés is his different versions on and off road.
Today Boticas possesses a Motocross Track where have already been disputed several events included in Portuguese or European Championships.
So, it was time to do something else, something different, and in 2015 the idea of a Hill Climbing race was born. The territory had perfect conditions for that kind of competition.
During several conversations with Boticas´ Mayor he has always showed a strong will to build a real Hillclimb Track because in a 40 km radius already exists two Motor Sport events integrated in World Championships, the Vila Real Circuit for FIA WTCR and Montalegre Circuit where has been disputed the FIA World Rallycross Championship and only missing a Hillclimb Event.
By the end of 2015, while drafting the 2016 Motor Racing Calendar, the FPAK (the Portuguese Motorsport Governing Body) informs Demoporto that in 2016 will not be allowed to use the same route for organizing two different events, what until then and for several years was happening with Penha Hillclimb also organized by Demoporto.
At that moment the conversations had with Boticas´ Mayor produce results and Boticas Hillclimb is born, built from scratch. Among other works the safety rails are placed and a new tarmac layer is also placed to eliminate some bumps. So a few months later everything is ready for the 1st Boticas Hillclimb from that moment included in 2016 Portugal Hillclimb Championship in a 4,0 Km version. BOTICAS HILLCLIMB WAS BORN.

Due to the geographic situation, right in the North of Portugal, about 20 km from Spanish border and with two World Championship events so near the ambition of both the Municipality and Demoporto grows even further because if the area is inside the parameters to receive those events it must be also ready to receive an event from an International Hillclimb Championship.
To match that ambition in 2017 the track length is increased to 5,11 km so that the Boticas Hillclimb can be integrated as an International Event. The entire track has been improved, to become the most safe event of the championship.
Demoporto and local authority, due to the Boticas mayor commitment, provided new tarmac, more rails and FIA safety net, to make this the safest Hill Climbing competition all over Europe.
Two thousand and 21 marks the presence of European Hill Climbing Championship at Boticas, under special safety rules, due to the present sanitary pandemic situation (more info).
Demoporto and the Boticas City Hall, welcomes you to the safest Hill Climbing Event in Europe.
